Seeking Help From A Counsellor or Psychotherapist

SeekingHelp

Sometimes life throws up surprises that can make you feel twisted and tangled. Some days you may feel low and need to talk to someone, and on others you feel fine and the thought of seeking help has gone away.

We don’t know why we feel this way. So how can we make sense of something we don’t understand? It can sometimes feel like our emotions and thoughts are taking over our whole existence, and we can feel helpless and stuck. Some feelings we may all experience include feeling lost, confused, angry, depressed, anxious, scared, empty and fearful.

Even in these times of difficulty, it’s very normal to feel apprehensive about seeing a counsellor or psychotherapist for the first time. After all, asking for help can make an issue feel even more real, and it’s easy to pretend ‘everything’s okay’.

However, many people, whatever their situation, have found counselling extremely helpful. Counselling can help with a wide range of issues, including;

  • Depression and stress (including PTSD)
  • Anxiety and panic attacks
  • Low self esteem and lack of confidence
  • Bereavement & loss
  • Work, school and relationship issues
  • Anger and other emotional difficulties

Counselling can also help you to reflect and make sense of difficult life events. It can help you to find a way to carry on. Some of the benefits are:

  • Talking to someone who is neutral, who will not judge you, in a safe and confidential space
  • Talking with a trained counsellor who is skilled at listening and will be by your side to help and guide you to process difficult thoughts and feelings
  • To enable us to explore, in depth, what is troubling you and discover what the underlying issue might be
  • It encourages us to take an honest look at our current thoughts, feelings & behaviours that may be preventing us from moving forward
  • It is a bespoke service for each individual as we are all unique

If you have any more questions or feel a little anxious about what to expect in counselling, or are unsure whether or not it’s for you, then please contact Fran Cowling at Central Health to discuss things further and in complete confidentiality.
