Biomechanical Assessment Centre
Our biomechanical assessment centre is situated in our chiropody clinic near Nottingham and Derby. If you come to us with a pain in your foot or further up in your body, we may recommend a biomechanical assessment to find the cause.
What Is A Biomechanical Assessment?
A biomechanical assessment involves your podiatrist examining the structure, function and alignment of your bones and muscles. Your podiatrist will look at your feet, legs and lower back and observe how they move together when you walk.
You will need to take your shoes off and we may ask to observe your legs and feet whilst you’re standing, lying down on the couch and stepping on to a platform. We analyse the strengths and weaknesses of your lower limbs and we use measurements and computer software to detect any abnormalities. Once we have an accurate diagnosis, we can prescribe the right orthotics.
Who Can Benefit From A Biomechanical Assessment?
Everyone can benefit from an assessment, especially if you have been experiencing pain in the lower limbs and are unsure of the cause. The pelvis, legs, ankles, knees and feet work together to help you move, so pain in one area can often be caused by a misalignment elsewhere. Likewise, pain in area may be referred pain from a misalignment elsewhere. This is exactly the type of problem that a biomechanical assessment can diagnose.
Your Limb And Foot Pain Diagnosis
Your limb or foot pain diagnosis could be a structural problem, a mechanical problem, or an injury. You will be advised of the best course of treatment, which could be changing the type of shoe you wear, prescription orthotics or physiotherapy. Occasionally, we may need to refer you to a specialist and we may need to send you for X-rays or scans. We work closely with surgeons, so we can also refer you for a surgical consultation if needed.
